BOSTON—Kristen Porter Presents is at it again with an LGBT showcase—along with the Women in Comedy Festival (WICF)—at Club Café on April 22 at 8 p.m.
The WICF is open to comedians of all gender, according to Kristen Porter, founder of Kristen Porter Presents, “but showcases women prominently.”
Why is a show of this kind more important today? Porter explains why.
“In this world climate, it is more important than ever to have opportunities to laugh together in safe spaces,” the business woman said. “As LGBTQ people, we have historically been the joke in mainstream comedy, which is why I believe in the importance of providing LGBTQ comics a stage and an audience to support their craft.”
The WICF festival last happened in Boston in 2015, the first year that the WICF partnered with Kristen Porter Presents/Dyke Night to produce a LGBT Comedy Showcase event. Both companies have been producing and hosting LGBT comedy shows for 20 years in Boston, explained Porter.
“The WICF is unique in that is seeks to address the marginalization of women in comedy, although it is open to all genders,” said Porter. “The LGBT Comedy Showcase seeks to provide a stage for LGBTQ comics who are further marginalized in mainstream comedy.”
Other comics for the show are: Erin Judge, George Civerus, Dominque Gelen, Chewy May, Robin Cloud, Samantha Ruddy, and Rod Ferguson. Getting early to the show will save 20 percent off your dinner at Club Café with the purchase of an advanced ticket.
“Tickets to the events will buy attendees 90+ minutes of the best LGBT comedy featuring LA’s Mary Dolan as emcee and headliner, along with seven additional comics,” Porter said to The Rainbow Times.
The show takes place on April 22 at 8 p.m. VIP tickets are already sold out. Club Café is located at 209 Columbus Ave. in Boston. To purchase general tickets at $25, click here. For more information via FB about the show, click here. For more information about the WICF, click here.
