PP’s first ever mayoral endorsement, Walsh is committed to building healthier communities, defending the health and wellbeing of all
BOSTON—The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts (PPAF) has endorsed Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh for re-election in its first ever endorsement in a mayoral race. PPAF endorsed Walsh because of his vocal and tireless advocacy to improve the lives of all Bostonians.
“Mayor Walsh fights for all Bostonians—no matter who they are. Like us, he believes access to affordable health care, reproductive rights, and equality builds the foundation for healthy neighborhoods, and works every day to help all Bostonians stay healthy and lead fulfilling lives,” said Dr. Jennifer Childs-Roshak, president of PPAF. “At a time when national politics are targeting communities already facing barriers to care and achievement, Mayor Walsh has stepped up to protect the health, wellbeing, and basic rights of everyone. With Mayor Walsh at the helm, our city will continue to stand strong even in these difficult times.”
Planned Parenthood health centers care for and educate women, men, and young people from every Boston neighborhood. As Planned Parenthood’s advocacy arm, PPAF understands the needs of these communities and knows firsthand that elected leaders play a profound role in improving the lives and communities of Planned Parenthood patients.
At every turn, Mayor Walsh has stood with Planned Parenthood patients, ensuring everyone can seek the care they need without fear of harassment or intimidation outside reproductive health centers in Boston, forcefully speaking out against politically motivated attacks on their care, and advocating for the right of everyone to make private medical decisions without shame, stigma, or government interference. Throughout his tenure, Mayor Walsh has worked to dismantle barriers to care and advancement, launching initiatives to tackle the spread of HIV; spearheading efforts to make the city more inclusive for the LGBTQ community; and establishing programs to shrink the gender wage gap.
“It is an honor to receive Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s endorsement. Since my start in public service, I have worked closely with Planned Parenthood to ensure that women have access to safe and affordable reproductive healthcare. There has never been a more critical time in the nation’s history to stand strongly in support of women’s health and reproductive rights. The patients, providers, and advocates of Planned Parenthood stand as a cornerstone in defending the rights of all women, and all patients in need of support. I will always stand with Planned Parenthood and the women and men in need of their services, and I look forward to our continued work together to ensure everyone can access quality care no matter what.”
The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts (PPAF) is the advocacy and political arm of the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM). Formed in 1984, PPAF believes that working within the political process is critical to advancing PPLM’s mission to increase access to sexual and reproductive health services and comprehensive sexuality education for women, men, and families across Massachusetts.
