Parade on June 14 Will Start One Hour Earlier Due to Government Center MBTA Construction
BOSTON, Mass.— Boston Pride announced today that the 2014 Pride Parade will begin at 11 a.m. from Copley Square, one hour earlier than in previous years. The parade will continue along the same route, ending at City Hall Plaza where the Pride Festival will begin at its usual start time, at 12 p.m. The earlier parade start is due to the ongoing construction at the Government Center MBTA station at City Hall Plaza which reduces the entry space into the Pride Festival area. Therefore, an earlier parade start by one hour will give additional time for participants and spectators to enter the Pride Festival.
“We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in moving the start time of the Pride Parade to 11 a.m., especially the City of Boston and our church communities,” said Parade Chair Martha Plaza who has coordinated the parade for the past four years. “We want to make sure that everyone has plenty of notice of the time change so that parade marchers can get into position on time and so that spectators can get in their favorite viewing areas to see the entire parade.” [pullquote]“We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in moving the start time of the Pride Parade to 11 a.m., especially the City of Boston and our church communities,” said Parade Chair Martha Plaza who has coordinated the parade for the past four years. Plaza said that churches that customarily hold services before the Pride Parade have also agreed to move the time of their services to accommodate the parade schedule change. On Saturday, June 14, the Old South Church will hold their annual LGBTQ Pride Interfaith service at 9:30 a.m. and the Arlington Street Church will hold its pre –parade Pride service at 10 a.m.
When the Pride Parade ends at City Hall Plaza, thousands will gather for the Festival that will feature five headline acts: Mary Lambert, A Great Big World, Alex Newell, JD Samson and Jeanie Tracy. The Festival is the last stop on the Boston Pride Parade route and will host musical entertainment, the Family Zone, the Main Stage Lounge and over 130 vendors.
Boston Pride Week 2014 will be held from June 6th through June 15th. This year’s theme is “Be Yourself, Change the World.” The week will kick off with the annual Flag Raising ceremony, and will also include, Pride Day @ Faneuil Hall, Pride Queeraoke, Pride Night at Fenway Park, the Boston Pride Parade, the Boston Pride Festival, the Pride Youth Dance, the Back BayBlock Party and the JP Block Party.
