Dollars contributed to MassEquality are dollars well spent
BOSTON, Massachusetts—MassEquality announce on January 4th that it made Philanthropedia’s list of top nonprofits working locally to advance LGBTQ equality. Philanthropedia is a division of the leading nonprofit information provider GuideStar.
Philanthropedia compiled its list by surveying 110 experts working in the field of LGBTQ equality to identify organizations that were making the biggest impact on a local and national level.
“By showing which nonprofits are doing high impact work, Philanthropedia is performing a valuable service. Donors need tools to help them evaluate whether their money is being put to good use,” said Kara Suffredini, Esq., Executive Director of MassEquality. “Our contributors can rest assured that that is the case at MassEquality. From winning marriage equality in Massachusetts, to working to help pass the Transgender Equal Rights Bill and get the Homeless Youth Commission created, we are focused and effective. Seventy cents of every dollar given to MassEquality goes back into the community.”
One of the experts who participated in the Philanthropedia rankings said of MassEquality: “The leadership and board of MassEquality is top notch. The group also has done an extraordinary job forging coalitions with lawyers, policymakers, and other activists.” Another noted that the “staff and leadership at MassEquality are major strengths.”

nonprofit strategy and the original chief operating officer of Philanthropedia. “We know that finding the nonprofits that are really having an impact can be daunting. Our rankings bring together the best thinking in any one cause area and provide an easy-to-use resource for those looking to donate to or otherwise sustain the important work of charities in that cause area.”
Other MA nonprofit organizations that made the list
Out of 103 organizations identified as local, high-impact nonprofits, MassEquality was ranked fifth. BAGLY, the Boston Alliance for Gay and Lesbian Youth, founded in 1980, was ranked fourth on the list and the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition was ranked eighth.
