PALM SPRINGS, Ca.—The National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) is proud to announce its annual Dinah Weekend celebration on April 5th honoring the progress that has been made in the movement for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender equality.
This year’s event is shaping up to be the best yet. NCLR Executive Director Kate Kendell and NCLR Senior Legislative and Policy Strategist Geoff Kors will provide an update on NCLR’s groundbreaking legal work, including its lawsuits to secure the freedom to marry in Utah, Idaho, Florida, Tennessee, and Wyoming, and its work to protect young LGBT people in states across the country from the dangers of so-called “reparative therapy.”
“This is an amazing opportunity for the LGBT community and our allies to come together and celebrate our successes and raise awareness and resources to make the most of this moment in history,” said Kors, who resides in Palm Springs. “Having won the case that brought marriage to California in 2008, NCLR is now focused on winning marriage nationwide and ending discrimination against LGBT people everywhere.”
Since its start in 1977, NCLR has embraced every aspect of the diverse LGBT community through its work, recognizing that the community comes from many different backgrounds and faces a wide range of issues. NCLR has always been on the cutting edge of legal and social issues, and was the first legal organization to create permanent projects for same-sex binational couples, LGBT asylum seekers, LGBT elders, transgender people, LGBT farmworkers, LGBT youth, low-income LGBT people seeking services from legal aid organizations, and LGBT athletes and coaches.
The event will be held on April 5, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kors’ home. Learn more about the event and get tickets at www.NCLRights.org/PalmSpringsTickets.
The National Center for Lesbian Rights is a national legal organization committed to advancing the human and civil rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community through litigation, public policy advocacy, and public education.
