CAPE COD, Mass.—The Foundation For International Justice, Inc. welcomes Kathy Felt as their new Board President, and Chief Operating Officer for the Promise Place School Initiative for Homeless LGBT Youth.
Kathy comes to the Foundation with over 20 years of experience working with at-risk youth in residential settings. From 2004-2013 Kathy was the Southeast Region Area Operations Director at the Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corps on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Kathy earned her Masters of Education degree in Counseling Psychology at Cambridge College. Her dedication, vision, and experience will prepare Promise Place School for State Licensing, and she will lead us into the future, assuring that we meet and exceed our goals of providing the highest quality services to the youth we plan to serve. The Foundation For International Justice, Inc. was created with a strong motto: “Human Rights Advocacy Through Compassionate Action.”
Its Founder, Stonewall Veteran Erica Kay-Webster, experienced homelessness as a transgender teen and this has left her with a drive and passion to end the cycle of homelessness for the highest risk youth today. Over 40 percent of homeless youth are LGBT youth.
Additional Board Members are: Erica Kay-Webster, Board Chair, Rebecca Adomaitis, Treasurer, David Darling, Assistant Treasurer, Drey Annachie, Secretary, and Joe Quigley, Archivist.
Through its residential school the Foundation will provide a permanent, safe and loving home environment where its students will be celebrated in their diversity and will find the encouragement—through strong leadership and support programs—to excel in this educational program. Upon successful graduation from Promise Place School, the students will receive a full scholarship to complete their education. The Foundation’s goal is to assure that each student will achieve the complete success of their dreams. At full capacity, the Cape Cod location will accommodate 50 homeless youth ranging in age from 11 to 24. Although shelters are necessary for short-term emergencies, the Foundation members believe that Promise Place School will become a viable and sustainable program dedicated to ending chronic homelessness. Accordingly, “they are grateful for all of the community support we have already received and continue to receive.”
Their first residential school facility on is planned to open on Cape Cod in 2014 to serve the needs of homeless LGBT youth within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Future plans include replicating the specific program where needed throughout the United States of America.
